Scale of healthcare cyber attacks increase as criminals change tactics, report finds

The first half of 2023 saw fewer healthcare data breaches, but the scale of individual breaches has grown, effecting around 50% of the 40 million healthcare records exposed due to strikes targeted at business associates of healthcare providers. The average cost of such a breach was near $11 million, which is a 53% increase since 2020. A report from cybersecurity groundwork, Critical Insight, demanded vigilance from healthcare leaders.
