Home Office was warned about NHS cyber hacks months before Kremlin-backed attack

The UK Home Office was warned of a “catastrophic” ransomware cyber attack risk before the NHS was targeted by Kremlin-protected Russian hackers. The Joint Committee on National Security Strategy (JCNSS) warned the NHS was “particularly vulnerable” due to old IT systems and Britain was unprepared for such a high-risk attack, yet the Home Office prioritised policies regarding illegal migration over cybersecurity threats. The JCNSS report suggests the Home Office must prioritise ransomware threats to UK national security and transfer responsibility for cybersecurity risks to Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden and the Cabinet Office.
