Modified criteria helping Mass General treat pediatric allergic reactions

A team from Mass General has developed a new set of guidelines to help medical professionals identify anaphylaxis in infants and young children. The existing criteria set out by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network often fail to adequately identify the life-threatening allergic reaction in younger patients. The researchers found that their updated criteria captured 98% of anaphylaxis encounters compared to the current standard’s 85%.
