Allowing healthy patients to pay to have their DNA analysed ‘breaches a core principle of the NHS’
Critics claim that the planned availability of DNA tests to identify those at risk of illness could create a “two-tier health service” on the NHS. Experts have warned that the scheme, which relies on volunteers consenting to results being shared, breaches the health service’s core principles. They added that the wealthy would be able to afford the testing and thus benefit more than those who couldn’t. It is not yet clear what the NHS plans to charge for the tests.
