Parents file lawsuits against Lurie Children’s Hospital over cybersecurity attack, claiming patients not kept safe

Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago is facing legal action over a cyberattack in which the data of 800,000 children was breached. Two class-action lawsuits allege that patients were put at risk and the hospital was excessively slow to inform them about the cybersecurity breach. The ransomware group, Rhysida, has claimed responsibility for the attack, which saw the hospital off-line for several months. The cases argue that Lurie Children’s Hospital failed to put in place adequate safeguards and breached industry standard practices, as well as state and federal laws.
