‘Out of date’ IT system leaves NHS at risk of further cyber attacks

A June cyber attack caused the postponement of over 6,000 appointments and procedures at London hospitals. The ransomware attack, believed to have been carried out by Russian cyber gang Qilin, resulted in 400GB of data, including patient details and blood test descriptions, being published online. Outdated IT and poor security practices are cited as key vulnerabilities. Affected trusts included King’s College Hospital and Guy’s and St Thomas’, though urgent and emergency services were maintained.
