Use of O type blood to be restricted in hospitals under ‘Amber Alert’ due to shortage

Hospitals are being urged to restrict the use of O type blood due to a shortage in stocks. The National Health Service (NHS) has issued an Amber Alert in response to the decline, which was exacerbated by a recent cyber attack. Donors with O negative and O positive blood types are requested to urgently book appointments at donor centres. At present, national stock of O Negative blood is 1.6 days, while overall blood stock across all types is 4.3 days.
