Insecure file-sharing practices in healthcare put patient privacy at risk

Healthcare organizations are putting patient data at risk, with 25% of publicly shared and 68% of externally shared private files containing Personally Identifiable Information (PII), according to data privacy firm Metomic. It added that inadequate permissions updates for private files can also expose data. The firm highlighted increasing data breaches in healthcare, pointing out that the ransomware attack on Change Healthcare is estimated to cost up to $1.6bn.
