Parkinson’s Patients More Likely to Carry Genetic Risk Variants Than Once Thought

Research by the Parkinson’s Foundation-backed PD GENEration, indicates that genetic variants of Parkinson’s disease (PD) are more prevalent than previously perceived. Results from their study on a broad North American populace showed that 13% of the participants have a genetic form of the ailment. Significant genetic variants were found in people with risk factors such as early age of onset and high-risk ancestry, but also among those without any known risk factors.
