Exosome-encapsulated fluorescent sensors enable advanced brain imaging in Alzheimer’s research

Researchers have developed a new way to deliver fluorescent sensors capable of detecting neurotransmitter levels directly to the brain across the blood-brain barrier. The sensors, encapsulated in exosomes derived from brain cells, could help advance diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s. The method was tested in lab models of the blood-brain barrier and in mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease, showing promise for non-invasive live brain imaging.
