Republicans lodge last ditch protest against marijuana rescheduling

Republicans are urging against the Biden administration’s decision to reschedule marijuana from a Schedule I to a Schedule III drug under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). Despite more than 40,000 comments largely supporting the change, 11 GOP state attorneys general have submitted a 42-page letter opposing the move. They believe rescheduling signifies “normalising” the marijuana industry. Various congresspeople also rejected the proposed rule. Advocates suggest this is a symbolic change, although some potential tax advantages could arise.
