AI model to help tackle aggression in the ED

Edith Cowan University’s Simulation & Immersive Digital Technology Group has developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-enhanced VR simulation to train medical workers in dealing with aggressive patients. In the simulation, users converse with AI model “Barry”, whose response, based on the empathy of the user, changes in real time. The system, currently in its first phase of development, allows health workers to practice deescalating violent behaviour in a safe environment.
