It’s not worth paying to be removed from people-finder sites, study says

Consumer Reports (CR) has conducted a study on the effectiveness of data removal services from people-search sites. The study, which used seven services over four months to try and remove personal data from 13 sites, found that only 35% of the 332 profiles identified were removed. Manual opt-outs were found to be the most effective method of removal. CR has called for stronger laws to make the removal of personal data easier. The study also highlighted close ties between people-search sites and data removal services.
