Vaping linked to higher risk of cigarette smoking and drug use in teens, young adults

US teens and young adults who vape are much more likely to start smoking cigarettes or using cannabis or other drugs, according to a study by the University of Michigan. Researchers examined data from 12-to-25-year-olds over eight years and found consistent risk for both adolescents and young adults. The study also suggested that preventing initiation of vaping could reduce the likelihood of starting cigarettes, marijuana, and other drugs.
