Bipartisan Effort Paves Way for Reviving Shuttered Hospitals in Georgia

A Georgia law has adjusted the state’s “certificate of need” system, which allowed existing hospitals to block potential competitors’ plans to expand. This system is prevalent in 35 states and Washington D.C. Although it has both support and criticism, the Trump administration urged states to get rid of or modify their certificate of need laws. The new Georgia law eases restrictions for building rural hospitals and could potentially see a new hospital built in partnership with Morehouse School of Medicine.
