CS-1103, a new medication that deactivates methamphetamine on contact, could end the current ‘sedate and wait’ treatment for methamphetamine poisoning. The C-shaped molecule, which also binds fentanyl and cocaine, allows the offending drugs to be excreted quickly. This could mean patients are under the influence for minutes, rather than hours, offering potential benefits in cases of psychosis and drug-affected law enforcement detainees. The drug, currently undergoing trials, is anticipated to be available for emergency use by mid-2026.
