FDA Approves Emergent BioSolutions Vaccine as New Tool in Fight Against Mpox

The FDA has approved an Emergent BioSolutions vaccine against mpox, a virus similar to smallpox, currently spreading in Africa. The ACAM2000 vaccine was originally developed against smallpox. It uses a live version of the vaccinia virus, provoking the immune system into producing protective antibodies. The pharmaceutical company is in discussions globally about wider use of the vaccine and will donate 50k doses for use in Central Africa.
