White House unveils plan to improve BGP security

The Biden administration is creating a strategy to improve Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) security. The Office of the National Cyber Director (ONCD) plans to reduce the protocol’s vulnerabilities through several technical measures. Given its history of security flaws, significant network traffic rerouting issues, and the potential for hijacking activities, BGP security has become a national priority. The ONCD suggests adopting Resource Public Key Infrastructure which validates routing safety and proposes actionable security measures for network operators.
