First case of bird flu without known animal contact detected in Missouri: CDC

The first case of human H5N1 bird flu infection without known contact with an animal has been detected in Missouri, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed. The patient, who had underlying health issues, has recovered. While the risk to the public remains low, 13 other cases in the U.S. this year involved exposure to infected animals. This is the first H5 case found through the country’s national flu surveillance system.
