FTC opposes Indiana’s first hospital merger under controversial COPA law
The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has urged Indiana authorities to block a proposed merger between Union Hospital and Terre Haute Regional Hospital. The FTC warned in a comment submitted to the Indiana Department of Health that the move would not only increase hospital costs, but also negatively impact healthcare services, potentially leading to worse patient outcomes. The merger is also predicted to lower wages for registered nurses in the state.
