Experiences of Adults Who Have Been Incarcerated: Findings from the KFF Survey on Racism, Discrimination, and Health

siteadmin September 9, 2024

A survey by KFF focusing on previously incarcerated individuals has shown significant health needs and restricted access to resources, including healthcare, among this demographic. Financial challenges were reported by many, with the difficulties more pronounced among lower-income individuals, women, and Black adults. The previously incarcerated also reported a lack of social support networks and feelings of loneliness. Health-wise, substantial shares reported poor physical and mental health, with a significant percentage skipping healthcare due to costs. Most depended on Medicaid for healthcare but a large percentage remained uninsured.
