India upgrades national doctors database
India has launched the National Medical Register (NMR), a new comprehensive database of registered medical doctors. The NMR is set to provide authentication of doctors’ identities and allows for license tracking. It replaces the old Indian Medical Register, providing more accurate and detailed data on the estimated 1.3 million medical doctors in India. The NMR will form part of the Healthcare Professional Registry under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
