Walgreens settles allegations of fraudulent billing with DOJ
Walgreens will pay nearly $107m to settle claims it fraudulently billed government healthcare schemes for prescriptions that were never collected from its pharmacies between 2009 and 2020. Walgreens blamed the overbilling on a software error, which it says has been rectified and all overcharges refunded. The payout, relating to three cases in New Mexico, Texas, and Florida, comes as the company struggles financially, reporting a net loss of $3.1bn in the last fiscal year.
