Wastewater monitoring is being used to identify viral and drug presence, helping to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and forecast areas of high-risk drug use. However, as this surveillance method becomes more specific, it raises privacy concerns and fears of misuse by law enforcement. To maintain trust, transparency measures are needed, as well as clear boundaries for how the resulting data can be used.
