A major data breach at cloud-based data warehousing platform Snowflake is causing far-reaching impacts, including AT&T reporting a cache of its customers’ data, with phone numbers and call records of around 110m people stolen. These breaches are often the result of third-party partners’ systems first being compromised. The increasing number of attacks has led to calls for robust strategies, frequent security updates and emphasis on the importance of protecting all sensitive customer information, with some 1.571 data breaches reported by July this year alone.
