A third of Americans have had their Social Security numbers leaked in healthcare breaches

Over a third of Americans have had their Social Security numbers leaked due to healthcare data breaches since 2020, according to cybersecurity firm Incogni. Their analysis showed that two-thirds of breached profiles contained names, one-third revealed addresses and 28% exposed Social Security numbers. California witnessed the most cases, with 221 incidents affecting 17.1 million profiles. Being the prime target, healthcare providers experienced 1,572 breaches affecting 87.6 million profiles.
