AHIMA: CCHIT expects high bar for certification

In Stage 2 of the meaningful use electronic health records incentive program, there will be a greater focus on quality of care and improved patient outcomes. The new criteria for certifying EHR technology to federal standards have been designed to support the delivery of safer care. This is in response to public criticisms and a report that highlighted the need for more research on the impact of health IT on patient safety. Providers have expressed concerns about the burden of collecting quality data with EHRs.
