AI may help improve equity in pain treatment, MGB study shows

Researchers at Mass General Brigham are using large language models (LLMs) to bridge the racial gap in pain perception and treatment. The study involved simulating 480 pain scenarios and having the AI rate the severity and suggest pain relief. The AI provided non-discriminatory recommendations irrespective of gender or race, improving health equity. The researchers encouraged future studies to investigate the potential of LLMs in other healthcare areas.
