Alabama hospital system DCH pays to restore systems after ransomware attack
DCH Health Systems in Alabama has reportedly paid an undisclosed sum to the hackers responsible for a ransomware attack on its hospitals. The attack, which took place on 1 October, involved Ryuk ransomware code that resulted in damage to around one in every eight files that were encrypted. DCH paid the attackers for a decryption key to unlock the files. The attack forced the hospitals to operate in manual mode using paper copies, and DCH is in the process of gradually restoring its systems.
