Almost unfixable “Sinkclose” bug affects hundreds of millions of AMD chips
Security researchers from IOActive have announced the discovery of a major security flaw, named Sinkclose, affecting AMD chips dating back to 2006. The flaw allows hackers to run code in a highly privileged mode of an AMD processor, enabling them to inject malware that evades antivirus tools and could even survive an operating system reinstallation. While some mitigations have been released by AMD, some devices may be easier to replace than to repair.
