ALS Study Combines Structural and Spatial Biology to Implicate Demetalized Protein

Researchers at the University of Birmingham have partnered with a team from the University of Sheffield to develop an imaging method called Native Ambient Mass Spectrometry which identifies metal deficiency in SOD1 protein. The new technique may provide a future diagnostic tool for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). ALS is a muscle wasting condition, currently incurable with no known cause.
