Antibiotic Compound Candidates Identified in Deep Sea Bacteria

Scientists at the University of Helsinki have identified potential antimicrobial compounds from actinobacteria species in the Arctic sea using a screening technology. The research discovered two compounds, one that inhibits the virulence or disease-causing capability without affecting growth, and another that hinders bacterial growth. This approach could pave the way for potential treatments against antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
