Appeal for O-type blood donors after cyber attack affected London hospitals
NHS Blood and Transplant is seeking O blood-type donors for appointments in the wake of a cyber attack on IT systems affecting hospitals’ ability to match patients’ blood requirements. The hack against pathology firm Synnovis, allegedly by Russian cyber criminals, led to a critical incident being declared at several London hospitals, the cancellation of operations and an inability to perform blood transfusions. The NHS is particularly calling for O- Positive and O- Negative donations, to be made at its 25 Blood Donor Centres in England.
