Apple users warned that fake Chrome update steals money, passwords
Malwarebytes has reported a new malware scam, “ClearFake”, which targets Apple systems with fake Chrome updates, to steal passwords and other data. The malware works by prompt users to click on a counterfeit Chrome update on compromised sites via JavaScript injections that infect systems with Atomic Stealer, a malware system which steals key data such as passwords and personal files. The report recommends that Apple users avoid updates from third-party sites and pop-ups, and strengthen their security systems by downloading the latest antivirus software from a reputable site.
