Are triptans more effective for acute migraines?
A report in The BMJ suggests that triptans, drugs that narrow blood vessels in the brain, are more effective at treating acute migraines than newer, more expensive drugs. The researchers cited eletriptan, rizatriptan, sumatriptan and zolmitriptan as being superior to drugs like lasmiditan, rimegepant and ubrogepant, recommending that triptans should be prioritized in treatment and included in the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines.
