Aretis Health LLC Informs 50 Entities’ Patients About a Breach in MOVEit
Greetings! Let’s have a chat about the latest in cybersecurity… and healthcare! Just recently, Aretis Health joined the increasingly large group impacted by a digital breach. Now, who’s Aretis Health, you ask? Well, they’re the lads who take care of billing for NorthStar Anesthesia.
When this breach occurred, they were looking after a whole host of folks everywhere from Elkin in North Carolina to the rather lovely Kentucky. The list is long as a winter night, with everyone from Northeast Gastroenterolgy Center to Lehigh Anesthesia Associates caught up in this nasty business.
Of course, proper as they are, they quickly notified everyone involved – that includes the patients and the Health and Human Services (HHS) department. You and I might know them as all those lovely folks who make sure we can all get our flu jabs on time! However, even though they popped the number over to HHS back on 29th of September, it’s not showing up on their website just yet. Odd, isn’t it?
Oh, and you may want to sit down for this next bit. This bugger of a breach affected our mates in Texas quite a bit… by 294,233 to be precise! Yes, indeed. That’s a lot of upset folks, one can imagine.
But what, pray tell, did these unsavoury characters actually get their mitts on? Well, it’s a bunch of personal stuff: names, dates of birth, driver’s license or other ID card numbers, addresses, and Social Security numbers. As if that’s not bad enough, they also got away with medical record numbers, health insurance details, diagnosis and treatment info, clinical and prescription data, and health provider information. Now, that’s not on, is it?
In short, it was the sort of information that can stir up all sorts of troublesome situations. A massive pain in the neck, to say the least! In the world of cybersecurity, this is a fairly substantial incident. For the healthcare sector, it shows just how vital it is to protect patient information – it’s not just about prescriptions and diagnoses anymore. It’s more than high time to step up that cybersecurity game, wouldn’t you agree?
And there you have it – a brief primer on this latest digital dust-up. We’ll just have to wait and see how this unfolds, but it’s clear as a bell that cybersecurity in the health sector is more important than ever before. Until next time, folks, stay vigilant, stay protected, and keep your tea hot!
