As Medicaid Unwinding Concludes in Most States, KFF Finds 25 Million Lost Medicaid Coverage but Enrollment is 10 Million Higher Than Pre-Pandemic Levels

Approximately 25 million people were removed from Medicaid during “unwinding”, despite which 10 million more people are enrolled in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) compared to pre-pandemic numbers, according to KFF. However, child enrolment is almost back down to pre-pandemic levels, with some children potentially losing coverage despite their eligibility. KFF will now use data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to track monthly Medicaid enrolment.
