At Sentara Healthcare, biometric tech links patients to correct records

Sentara Healthcare, a 130-year-old health system, turned to Imprivata’s PatientSecure technology to manage patient identification across its expanding network. The technology generates a single biometric identifier for each patient, allowing for accurate identification and linking of medical records. Since implementation, Sentara has enrolled over 750,000 patients and achieved over 2 million authentications, improving patient safety and experience. Sentara advises other organizations to ensure consistent messaging and education about the technology and to understand workflows and patient flow for successful implementation.
