Bad Influence: How A Marketing Startup Exposed Thousands of Social Media Stars
Over 12,000 social-media influencers had their personal data exposed after a storage Cloud, belonging to marketing company Octoly, was left open to the public. The leak, which revealed the details of Instagram, Twitter and YouTube personalities, was due to the database being improperly set up for public access. The exposed information included names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, Paypal details, over 12,000 hyperlinks, and hashed user passwords, potentially leading to password reuse attacks. Cyber risk firm UpGuard reported the error and the situation was subsequently resolved.
