Balancing budget and system security: Approaches to risk tolerance

American TV channel Nickelodeon experienced a data leak, though the files involved were mainly production-related and decades old, indicating no damage. The incident, however, raises questions over the necessity of storing old data and the associated security risks. Organizations need to consider worst-case scenarios related to proprietary data leaks. Several management approaches, based on risk tolerance, maturity, budget, threat-based factors, and people, process and technology (PPT) considerations, are recommended for dealing with cyber risks.
