In 2023, a malware attack occurred at a European healthcare institution. The incident was linked back to Camaro Dragon, a Chinese espionage group, and was propagated through an infected USB drive originating in Southeast Asia. The malware, known as WispRider, can propagate through USB drives and has been updated to bypass certain antivirus solutions. Check Point Research advised several tech companies of the misuse of their software in this attack. The incident indicates the ongoing effectiveness of USB devices as a malware infection vector.
