Big Sky country HIE has big ideas for its data

Dr. William Reiter, chief medical information officer at HealthShare Montana, believes that there is a missed opportunity for data analysis in health information exchanges (HIEs). By combining claims and clinical data with other data sets, such as Census demographics and environmental quality data, Reiter hopes to gain insights into illness causes and treatment effectiveness. However, there are limitations to this approach, including HIPAA regulations and data access. HealthShare Montana aims to offer analytical services to healthcare providers and insurers, with revenue generated from membership fees, software sales, and Meaningful Use incentives.
