Bipartisan Senate bill would require EPCS nationwide to fight opioids

A group of bipartisan Senators has introduced a bill that aims to use health IT to combat the opioid crisis. The Every Prescription Conveyed Securely Act would require electronic prescriptions for all controlled substances under Medicare. The bill seeks to reduce the use of forged or altered prescriptions and prevent doctor shopping. It also aims to gather better data on the opioid epidemic and help healthcare providers make informed decisions for their patients. Companion legislation has also been introduced in the House of Representatives.
