Bloodstream Infections from Combat Injuries Focus of DARPA-Funded Prophylactic Approach

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has awarded a contract worth up to $12m to researchers at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University. The institute is developing a prophylactic treatment to clear bloodborne pathogens in trauma victims and prevent potential blood-borne infections. This treatment combines two technologies; pathogen-binding and macrophage-activating cellular backpacks, creating a powerful new approach against infectious pathogens.
