Blues go public with data exchange

Blue Shield of California and WellPoint are investing $80m in the California Integrated Data Exchange (Cal INDEX) to create a healthcare data sharing service. Cal INDEX will provide healthcare providers, payers and patients with a unified statewide source of integrated patient information, and will be one of the largest exchanges in the country. The service will connect claims and EHR data to create comprehensive patient records accessible through a portal that works with most major electronic medical record systems.
