Chinese hackers have breached at least six US state governments’ computer systems in the past year, according to cybersecurity firm Mandiant. They exploited a vulnerability in a piece of software known as log4j. Additionally, hackers breached more than 20 natural gas firms before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, raising suspicions of state-sponsored cyberattacks tied to the conflict. Meanwhile, Google has bought Mandiant for $5.4 billion to bolster its cloud computing business.
