Chinese-Speaking Hacker Group Targets Human Rights Studies in Middle East

Middle Eastern and Malaysian government entities have been targeted by Chinese-speaking threat group Tropic Trooper since June 2023. Cybersecurity firm Kaspersky detected a new version of the China Chopper web Shell on a public web server, designed to deliver a malware implant named Crowdoor. Tropic Trooper is known for targeting infrastructure in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. This attack marks the first time the group has targeted entities related to human rights studies.
