Chinese Spies Infected Dozens of Networks With Thumb Drive Malware

Chinese-backed hackers are using old-school USB malware to infiltrate computers around the world, according to cybersecurity firm Mandiant. The hacker group, dubbed UNC53, has infected at least 29 global organisations since 2020 by tricking staff into using infected USB drives. Many infections originated from Africa-based operations of multinationals in countries like Egypt, Zimbabwe and Kenya.
