CHW PICU deploys modelling tool to simulate patient flows

The Children’s Hospital at Westmead is using a new tool developed by the Sax Institute to predict and manage patient flows at the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The tool was developed using six years of patient data and a new phase will be used to study the impact of increasing bed numbers at a new, larger PICU. The tool can simulate a patient’s journey, from diagnosis to the chance of surgery being cancelled, to the duration of treatment, and more.
