Birst, the business intelligence software company, accidentally exposed sensitive credentials and passwords that are used to access its appliances. The data was found on a publicly accessible Amazon Web Services S3 bucket by cyber security company UpGuard on 15 January. The bucket was named ‘capitalone-appliance’, leading UpGuard to incorrectly attribute the bucket to the bank. Capital One confirmed the data was not associated with its systems and Birst removed the data from public view. Birst said no customer or sensitive company data was leaked.
